Not all back pain is the same

🟠 BACK CARE AWARENESS | Not all back pain is the same

“My back hurts.”

It's one of the most common things we hear — but the reason why someone's back hurts can vary considerably.

Back pain can be associated with:

➡️ Muscle and joint problems
➡️ Disc irritation or injury
➡️ A disc bulge or herniation
➡️ Sciatica and nerve irritation
➡️ Spinal stenosis
➡️ Age-related changes in the spine

And sometimes several factors are involved at once.

That's also why a treatment that worked brilliantly for your friend, partner or colleague might not necessarily be right for you.

Our osteopaths assess how you move, examine the painful area and take time to understand your symptoms and medical history.

Where appropriate, further investigation such as an MRI may also be recommended.

The aim isn't simply to treat “back pain”. It's to understand what's causing yours.

A weekend away from the treatment rooms… and onto the golf course!

⛳ A weekend away from the treatment rooms… and onto the golf course!

Joanna and Michael headed to Campbeltown this weekend for some well-earned time away and the chance to play at the fantastic Machrihanish Golf Club. 🏌️‍♀️🏌️‍♂️

Beautiful scenery, some great golf and, inevitably, a little healthy competition along the way! 😄⛳

There were a few good shots, a few they’d rather forget… and plenty of discussion about the scorecards! 😂

A brilliant weekend on the west coast before heading back to clinic this week — hopefully with the golf swings intact and no injuries requiring treatment! 🙌

Back pain: when should you get it checked?

Most of us experience the occasional ache or pain, but sometimes your back is telling you it needs a little more attention. 👀
It may be worth getting assessed if:
🔹 Your pain isn’t improving as expected
🔹 You keep having the same flare-ups 🔄
🔹 Pain travels into your buttock or leg 🦵
🔹 You’re experiencing pins and needles or numbness ⚡
🔹 Your sleep is being disturbed 😴
🔹 It’s stopping you working, exercising or doing the things you enjoy 🚶‍♀️🏌️‍♂️
Getting your back checked doesn’t necessarily mean there is anything serious going on. Often, understanding **what is causing your symptoms** is the first step towards knowing what to do about them. 🔎
At Cram Osteopaths, we’ll assess you thoroughly, explain our findings and discuss the treatment options that may be suitable for you. 💙

How many osteopaths does it take to fix a bin?

🗑️🔧 How many osteopaths does it take to fix a bin?
Apparently... two! 😂
This week, Joanna and Alex swapped treating backs for tackling a slightly different challenge around the clinic. After some careful assessment, teamwork and a touch of determination, the bin is now back to full working order. ✅
Being an osteopath involves far more than hands-on treatment. On any given day we might be reviewing scans, helping patients achieve their goals, maintaining equipment, solving unexpected problems, or even carrying out a bit of DIY around the clinic. 🛠️
Thankfully, fixing people remains our strongest skill... but it's always satisfying when a repair job goes to plan too! 😆

Star Steals the Show at Eaglesham Fair

🏆 Star Steals the Show at Eaglesham Fair
Many of our patients will already know Star, Joanna and Michael's much-loved dog.
Despite living with a degenerative spinal cord condition and now using a walking aid to stay mobile, Star recently attended the Eaglesham Fair and was awarded Best Dressed Dog in Show. 🎉
More importantly than the trophy, Star continues to remind us that challenges don't have to stop us enjoying life. With the right support, adaptations and determination, it's often possible to continue doing the things we love.
Whether it's a dog in a set of wheels or a patient returning to golf, gardening or walking after injury, we see examples of resilience every day

🌿 Gardening Season = Back Pain Season ☀️

After a long winter indoors, it’s tempting to spend hours in the garden the moment the sunshine appears 🌼

The problem? Your spine might not be quite as enthusiastic 😅

At this time of year we often see:
🔸 Lower back strains from bending and lifting
🔸 Sciatica flare-ups after digging or weeding
🔸 Neck and shoulder tension from repetitive tasks
🔸 Knee stiffness after prolonged crouching

💡 One of the biggest mistakes is trying to do everything in one day. Gradually building activity levels is far kinder on your back and joints.

Quick Gardening Tips 🌱
✔ Break tasks into shorter sessions
✔ Alternate positions regularly
✔ Avoid twisting while lifting
✔ Stretch gently afterwards
✔ Don’t ignore those early “warning twinges”

A little preparation now can help keep you active and enjoying the garden all summer long 🌸

👣 Plantar Fasciitis – The Heel Pain We See Every Spring

👣 Plantar Fasciitis – The Heel Pain We See Every Spring

One of the most common problems we treat at this time of year is plantar fasciitis.

This often starts as:

🔹 Sharp pain under the heel first thing in the morning

🔹 Pain after walks, golf or standing in the garden

🔹 Tightness in the arch or calf

🔹 A dull ache that gradually worsens over weeks

Many people try to “walk it off”… but unfortunately, heel pain rarely improves when ignored.

✅ Early treatment can make a huge difference.

At Cram Osteopaths, we combine hands-on treatment, rehabilitation advice, shockwave therapy and movement assessment to help patients recover faster and stay active.

📲 Book an appointment if heel pain is beginning to affect your walking, exercise or sleep.
